"A Reasonable Divorce"
This was the second marriage and divorce for both of us and neither party wanted to go through a big cat fight. My son, an attorney, recommended an attorney for J and I went searching. J's attorney pointed out that in a collaborative divorce setting, both attorneys needed to have a real commitment to the collaborative process and needed to trust each other. J's attorney suggested several names of attorneys I might consider. That was new and different and unsettling all at once. I thought I needed someone from Rambo & Rambo at least, but back to my son the plaintiffs lawyer. He said "Why not? You need to collaborate, not fight." So I looked at the short list and did a brief internet review and picked Mr. Bouschor. The process worked almost too well. There were bumps and potholes, but they were minor. The process went a little slower than I wanted, but we were tied to the slowest party in the room. The whole way through the process I was about as relaxed and confident as possible in the circumstances, due mainly to the fact that we were able to communicate quickly and comfortably. Working within the collaborative process was different, but as I was guided down the road, I began to really understand what was going on. Finally, we were able to formulate an outcome which seemed to meet my needs. To my great surprise, J suggested the settlement which I was contemplating. Net result was two subdued, kind of sad people who walked out to the parking lot, gave each other a hug, said"I'm sorry it didn't work out" and went their own way. From my side, I can't think how things could have gone better. Thanks, Dave, for making a rough time turn out as smooth as possible.
